touch computing

Ever since touch screen computing concept hit the silver screens, users across the world have been dreaming about interacting with their PCs just with the touch of their fingers, completely eliminating the use of keyboards and other input devices.

Though the “Touch” generation has sprinted along at lightening speed, yet it is primarily focused on hand held devices, cell phones and mobile platforms. Touch screen computing has seen its share with the Tablet Notebooks and other innovative hardware that enables the users to interact with their systems via touch. However, there is one concept that is still under a lot of experimentation and that is, touch enabled desktops, where users can interact with their monitors without getting their arms ripped out of their sockets.

Now, a video has surfaced, designed and created by R. Clayton Miller, a graphic designer whose current vision has left the online community in awe. The all new concept named 10/GUI is based around the principle of keeping a touch input device, splayed down where the keyboard and mouse should be, thereby enabling users to interact with their systems with endless ease. 10/GUI states that, instead of using multi cursors on the screen to achieve various tasks, the users would in fact use their fingers to communicate with the system.

However, the primary hurdle for such a concept is the operating systems currently in place, such as Microsoft Windows that would make it a cumbersome task to operate and communicate with the computer as more and more windows will be added to the list, with each new application and gesture. To overcome this inevitable hurdle, Miller proposes a self devised principle, known as Con10uum. This state of the art principle states that, if the ever increasing windows in today’s OS can be arranged in a linear manner, then it should solve the problem of windows cluster and would give the users an all new, much enhanced computing experience.
