Samsung Electronics in a joint venture with carbon nanotube manufacturer Unidym divulged the first ever carbon nanotube color active matrix electrophoretic display (EPD) e-paper in recent times at a conference held in Korea. This e-paper device uses a carbon nanotube transparent electrode.
The 14.3” EPD offers innate advantages over the conventional flat panels in consuming less power and has a brighter light display which makes it suitable for use in cell phones as it saves on the battery time. It conserves energy because it doesn’t need a backlight and is clearly perceptible even under the sun. Over this, the images in the display need not be refreshed often as they are preserved.
This new age energy conserving nanotube EPD would surely make techno-buffs happy and open a new arena for the application of nanotechnology in gadgets. I guess if not much, it can save on energy consumption at least to an extent.
