Earlier this year, the automobile startup company, Fisker, took the world of hybrid vehicles by storm as the company launched its highly anticipated plug-in hybrid luxury sports sedan, Fisker Karma. Last week Fisker teased the auto enthusiasts with a silhouetted image of its all new Fisker Surf, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and now the company has finally showcased the stunning 2012 Fisker Surf at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA 2011) in front of an overly eager crowd. The Surf has been introduced as a five door sports hatchback that has been designed to bring to the table breathtaking attributes of a sports car and the cargo space of a hatchback. Identical in the aspects of range, the 2012 Fisker Surf is an range-extended electric vehicle just as its predecessor, Fisker Karma and the company has given this vehicle gorgeous looks as well.
The 2012 Fisker Surf is powered by a turbocharged onboard range-extender engine that delivers 260-horsepower along with a 175 kW electric motor providing 234 horsepower, while the electric motors takes its juice from an on board 20 kWh battery pack. With a combined awesome power of 494 hp, the Surf can easily accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9-seconds, while the top speed of the vehicle is the same as of Karma at 125 mph with a combined extended range of 300 miles. This maximum speed can be attained while driving the Surf in Sport mode, where in the car makes use of both the conventional engine as well as the electric powertrain. Furthermore, the 2012 Fisker Surf has been given an all new driving mode called, Stealth Mode, where in the vehicle can deliver an extended range of 50 miles, while compromising on the top speed, which comes down to 95 mph. On the inside, the all-new 2012 Fisker Surf features textured fabric and metallic trim and can easily seat up to four occupants. The battery pack of the Fisker Surf can be topped from empty in 14 hours, using a 110V household socket, while a level 2 charger will easily decrease the charging time to just six hours.
