Mexicali Earthquake 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake in South California and Mexico

Southern California and the Northern part of Mexico witnessed a powerful earthquake of 7.2 magnitude at 3.30 pm local time. The tremors were felt in Southern California, Arizona, Northern Mexico and even in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be 110 miles southeast of Tijuana, in Baja California, Mexico. Witness say that the roads cracked up, the electricity pole collapsed, a house collapsed, a multi storied empty car park collapsed in Mexicali. Mexicali is a large and busy industrial area and the state capital of Baja California. One person is reported to have been death after the house collapsed in Mexico.

Social media like Twitter was buzzing with the latest pictures of the aftermath of the disastrous earthquake. YouTube had videos of the swimming pool water being splashed all over the place due to the earthquake. Videos of stores with rattling bottles in the shelves during the earthquake and crashing on the floor were trending on the web too.

Although the scale of earthquake witnessed today was higher than the 7.0 magnitude in Haiti, the damage was greater over there due to the location of the epicenter and its vast population around it.
