Faithful Japanese couples dread the waters of the Inokashira Park in Tokyo. The myth has it that whoever takes a ride in the pond will surely wreck his relationship. The smart boat owners thought of a smart idea to encash this reputation of the pond and offered rides to couples who wanted to test the strength of their relationship.

The pond has goddess Benzaiten’s shrine located at a stone’s throw distance. The legend has it that whoever takes a ride in the pond without visiting the temple gets cursed and his romantic involvement with anyone will come to an end. There is a flip side to it too, the word also has it that your relationships will be blessed, if you visit the temple

The pond in the Higashiyama Park in Nagoya has a similar story. The dragon, which is believed to reside in the pond, was earlier known for ’sucking away’ sorrows from people’s life. Apparently the boat owners have twisted this tale and have spread a word that the dragon will make you forget your relationships.

The bottom line is, people can buy any crap when it comes to relationships and the rest of us try to make the most of such situations.
