The next time you feel you are unwell, just turn to your mobile phone. All thanks to civilization and the power of advanced technology. Applied Nanodetectors Ltd (AND) of the UK protoyped a cool mobile phone that can literally detect various diseases from user’s breath. This was exhibited at the International Nanotechnology Exhibition & Conference (nano tech 2009).
Apparently, the handset was manufactured by Nokia Corp of Finland. This mobile phone comes with the most unprecedented features. It is embedded with AND’s chip, which integrates sensors to detect various gases such as CO2, NOx and ammonia (NH3). According to Victor Higgs, the managing director of AND, the chip determines the composition of the user’s breath and tabulates the density of each gas. Once the results of the characteristics are matched of various diseases, it can detect diseases. Some of the diseases, which this mobile phone can detect are asthma, diabetes, lung cancer, gastro, oral odor level and breath alcohol concentration, etc. However, if the mobile phone detects one or more of these diseases, it automatically informs the user or his/her doctor for early detection of diseases.
According to Higgs, the marketing schedule of this mobile phone is yet to be determined in Europe and they are also aiming to do businesses with Japanese mobile carriers.
