A Home Away from Home in the Frozen Lands of Iceland

Iceland might bring to you the images of frozen tundra landscapes, volcanoes, hot springs and wild parties in Reykjavik. While Reykjavik is the smallest capital city in Europe, it is also one of the most urbanized in character and culture. Thus, people usually seek a home far away within the remoteness of the tundra.

Mathiesen has thus created a place of refuge for a family of five using Western Red cedar and steely corrugated aluminium. The prefab house contains a covered entryway, pen kitchen/living/dining room spaces, bathroom and exterior storage space. There also is a small wooden verandah and a sauna and a hot tub to loosen those frigid and frozen flesh, muscles and bones.

The interiors are minimalist and look really nice. If you have been dreaming of a house in the deep tundra, perhaps this is the house to be in! I am sure the house would be warm too, thanks to the cedar wood which can act as a temperature stabilizer. If you would like a house like this, contact your architect!
