A new World War of Africa

More bad news came from Africa.

This time, despite the negative of several countries in the region, there are strong indications that foreign forces are involved in conflicts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Journalists in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo said that up to one quarter of the forces who are fighting alongside the dissident general, Laurent Nkunda, are Rwandan.

Some soldiers have said to have received their Rwandan Army soldiers. Other information pointed to the presence of Angolan and Zimbabwean troops in the region.

The possibility aroused fears of a repeat of a war that lasted from 1998 to 2003 in Congo, and involved eight countries in the region, becoming known as the World War of Africa. At the time, Congolese government forces, backed by soldiers from Angola, Zimbabwe and Namibia against rebels backed by Uganda of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.

The evidence would suggest that history can repeat. The possible presence of Rwandan soldiers on Congolese Tutsi rebel forces has been reported a few weeks ago. At the same time, there were reports of residents of the regional capital, Goma, that between the forces of the Congolese government is Angolans soldiers – are soldiers who do not speak any of the local languages and communicate in Portuguese.
