Believe it or not but a potted plant in a cafe in Tokyo actually keeps a daily online blog (http://plant.bowls-cafe.jp/index.php). Popularly known as Midori-san which means green (yep, the green being actually has a name), it entertains customers of the cafe writing about its feelings.
The whole thing is a result of research work by a Keio University engineer who was studying how to communicate with plants, since plants are believed to be more sensitive to things like light. Then again, haven’t we heard of the process of plant growing to use music to make plants feel happy so that they grow healthy. For a long time, we have believed that plants have feelings and the blog just proves that, though it does not run deep.
Coming back to Midori-san, the researcher simply devised a sensor that measures bio-electric signals, which he attached to the plant. Now these are converted into data by a computer and then translated into Japanese in the form of a blog.
The plant writes stuff like, “Today it was sunny and I was able to sunbathe a lot”.
