You heard of the bionic arm, bionic leg and a probability of seeing a superhuman-esque bionic man somewhere in the future. But ‘Bionic butt’; that is news indeed! Ged Gavin, 55, suffered massive internal injuries and had to be fitted with a colostomy bag. But he, along with a team of experts thought of and decided on taking a whole new path that gave Mr. Gavin not just a new bionic addition but also ended up making him the world’s first man with a bionic bottom.
Surgeons at the Royal London Hospital performed a complex operation that allowed the colostomy bag to be replaced by a muscle that was taken from the top of his knee, wrapped around his sphincter, and had electrodes attached to the nerves. While it might all sound funny the very serious operation was a complete success and now Med operates his bottom using a palm-sized remote control that he carries in his pocket.
So whenever Gavin needs to go to the loo, he now just presses the remote on the button and his robotic bottom just gets the job done. So, while Ged Gavin enjoys his new found confidence in the toilet, we are still wondering what other bionic stuff doctors can put together. You know what we are thinking…
