Who wouldn’t wish to have a chair or a sofa that would automatically ensure that the person sitting in it is comfortable? Now, Yu-Ying Wu who is a graduate from the Department of Industrial Design from the Tatung University in Taiwan has designed and developed an ingenious and highly creative piece of furniture, that in fact looks more like Tofu. Wu calls it, “The Breathing Chair”
The Breathing Chair concept was so highly acclaimed that, it was submitted to the international “red dot design award” nomination. The intense creativity and the usability factor involved in the Breathing Chair, won Wu the home furniture design concept award. The breathing chair is made entirely of high density foam plastic and resembles to the shape of a Tofu. The materials used in the making of the breathing chair are completely eco friendly.
The breathing chair has been designed by Wu, keeping in mind the fragile human body and the effects of prolonged seating exposure in furniture. Therefore, while making the breathing chair, Wu took into consideration the spatial aspects of the chair and created holes in strategic places across the chair. This resulted in a chair that, automatically adjusts to the weight and position of the occupant.

Furthermore, Wu confessed that, the breathing chair concept emerged from the plant cells, that provide crucial life giving nutrients to the flora. The concept that evolved from the plant cells, gave the chair, its breathing appearance.
