Looks like thieves are adapting the unique ways of stealing these days. As if to keep up pace with the modern times, Tom Berge used Google Earth to steal roofs of buildings. This is quite an unprecedented way of thieving.
This 27 year old builder used Google Earth, which shows aerial photographs of towns across the world. He then tracked his potential targets surfing the net from his home computer. Apparently, he would literally scale the roofs of the buildings and remove the valuable roof materials and rappel down the side of the building. Later, he sold the lead to scrap metal dealers for a whopping sum of money. Some of the buildings, which became his target in his six months stealing spree were Honeywood Museum in Carshalton, Sutton High School for Girls and Croydon Parish Church. Berge got his deserving punishment after he pleaded guilty of his notorious act.
What fascinates me, is the way he chalked out his plans very cleverly. I wonder what Google has to say to this? For sure Google Earth is a boon to somebody’s thieving skills.
