At one time, flying was limited to trained professionals in planes that actually featured aerodynamic bodies. That time is now interposed with the new age of creative flying machines that really can’t be called planes in any sense.
The AN-1 AeroQuad is a VTOL with a slight twist; just like a chopper and other VTOLs it lifts off vertically but the dual propellers are situated below instead of atop the machine. The ‘pilot’ would have to stand inside a chassis above the propellers and control the flight; letting go and falling off can be not just hazardous but would definitely earn you a closed-casket funeral. The AN-1 AeroQuad from Spain’s Aeris Naviter can fly for five hours at the height of 20-30 feet and carrying a maximum load of 200kg. Attached skis just below the propellers make it convenient for landing on soft snowy ground and water also. The AN-1 AeroQuad is apparently quite the ideal flying machine for mountain rescues, fire fighting, crop spraying and aerial photography due to its easy navigation and also the heavy load it can carry.
The AN-1 AeroQuad is extremely easy to fly with the pilot having to lean in the desired direction and with hand controls for other functions. It can even be folded up for easy transport and even though it may not be all it is being touted as, the concept it definitely worth checking out.
