As our civilization evolves, our need for better machines and cutting edge technology has been like an insatiable appetite, that no matter how much mankind achieves, just always seems less. In our course of making our live comfortable, our endeavors have now created an environmental condition so hazardous, that the ‘Go Green’ revolution has picked up tremendous speed. After years of research and experimentation, our roads have finally witnessed the influx of electric and hybrid cars, that while giving the same comforts of a conventional vehicle, have very little or in many cases zero negative effects in terms of emission.

However, people are now focusing their attention on commercial travel and ways in which air travel can be brought to the eco-friendly table. Numerous experts now believe that, the future of air travel lies in electric powered and hybrid planes that, would travel across the skies without harming the environment. When it comes to zero emission aircrafts, there are a lot of factors that come into play, before such a concept can even be brought to the drawing board. For starters, many of the current relative small aircraft have demonstrated that, when powered by hybrid engines and electric motors, though they do become eco-friendly, yet these technologies, severely hampers two crucial elements of commercial aviation, range and speed. As against a convention jet engine, that can cruise at 200 miles an hour with a range of 600-900 miles, both hybrid and electric planes have been known to have a top speed a mere 100 mph and a maximum range of not more than 300 miles.

According to Charlie Johnson (Former President, Cessna),

“The time to accelerate incorporation of this new hybrid technology has arrived. Aviation is a vital market that will benefit from the environmentally friendly, lower cost, more efficient and higher performing aircraft.”
