In a bizarre twist of fashion inspiration, British designer Alexander McQueen came out with his outlandish 12-inch shoes/boots unveiled on Paris catwalk. Some may think they are chic, others believe they are tools of torture in more ways than one. One thing they are not: made for walking – which, then, makes one doubt whether they are, indeed, footwear. Some are eye candy, though, such as the crystal-studded 12-inch elevations. The platform shoes were part of a collection inspired by Charles Darwin’s The Origin Of The Species.

The models with teased hair and shaved eyebrows, and who teetered precariously on the catwalk, wore fantasy fauna inspired fashion, devil-like horns, minidresses decorated with all manner of colorful, elaborate skins, ruffled hemlines made to resemble feathers, and vibrant fabrics printed to resemble amphibian-like breastplates. The high-tech prehistoric underwater scene, as part of the show, had models with gills painted on their temples and glossy skin.

The catwalk show was an exclusive invite-only affair that was ‘intended to be streamed live to an audience of six million, but the Showstudio.com website, on which it was due to be shown, crashed thanks to none other than Lady GaGa. The eccentrically-dressed pop princess, who provided the music for McQueen’s show, had tweeted that her new single, Bad Romance, would be premiered at the show, citing the website as a source from which to hear it.’
