One of the largest online shopping retail stores, Amazon, has announced that it will be employing the Same Day Shipping delivery protocol to speed up its delivery system as the holiday season fast approaches. The new service, aptly named, Local Express Delivery will be available in selected states across the United States. Some of the major markets that will see this new system in place are, New York, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Baltimore, Boston, Washington DC, and Seattle. The reason why Amazon isn’t able to implement Local Express Delivery in all states is due to the fact that, Amazon can only fulfill the same day shipping commitments to the places that are near or at an appropriate distance to an Amazon delivery hub.
The Local Express Delivery comes with a few conditions though, such as, no weekend delivery and no delivery for P.O. boxes or APO, FPO, or DPO. Additionally there will not be delivery after 8pm local time, regardless of the commodity or the area.
The all new Local Express Delivery is nothing new to Amazon, as the company is already running a premium shipping service called, Amazon Prime. This particular service is available to all Amazon customers at an annual subscription fee of $79. The service offers free 2-days shipping to on various commodities and can also be easily upgraded to 1-day shipping, at an additional charge of $3.99. Those Amazon users who are currently enrolled in Amazon Prime and are residing in the Local Express Delivery zones can switch to the new service by paying an additional fee of $5.99. However, the subscription fee for the non-Amazon Prime users hasn’t been announced yet.
