Amazon Inc. has announced that its popular e-reader, Kindle will be given a firmware update, with which the e-reader will witness an extended battery life and will also be provided with a PDF reader.
The new battery life would mean that the Kindle will be able to operate a whole week, even with its wireless receiver on, with just one full charge of its batteries. With this update to the firmware, the battery power will receive an 85% boost and if the wireless receiver is turned off, the Kindle will able to provide continuous operations for two straight weeks. Along with the battery life update, the Kindle will also receive a PDF update, that will allow the device to open and read PDF files without the need of conversion from PDF formats.
According to Amazon, the battery extender update for Kindle took more than six months of intense research and development and the firmware updates will be delivered to Amazon Kindle e-Reader, whenever the devices establish Wifi connection.
In its Press Release. Amazon said,
“Kindle, already the #1 bestselling, most wished for, and most gifted product on all of Amazon.com, is now even better—with 85 percent more battery life and a built-in PDF reader. These two significant enhancements are available now.”
However, the Kindle e-reader update isn’t update for the users, as the device will automatically download and install the firmware update, when it is in the sleep mode with its wireless receiver on. The automatic updation of the Kindle has been a problem for Amazon in the past as well, when the company deleted the editions of 1984 from the users’ devices, without their permission or without notification. The move lead to a storm of lawsuits against Amazon, left it apologizing to the customers.
