A farmer in Pennsylvania was jailed for 90 days after neighbors accused him of disposing off garbage in their fields. What’s more, he even disposed off the sewerage from two toilets into their fields. The infuriated neighbors filed a case against the farmer and the farmer claimed his religion did not allow him to use modern amenities to dispose garbage and human waste.

He argued that he had ‘religious’ right to dispose filth on neighbors’ properties. Amish are known to be extremely conservative and fundamentalist. They refuse to use any modern technology and stay in an elusive manner. They are recluses who refuse to mix with the modern world as that would go against the Amish Church.

Amish shun the modern world and their numbers are expected to be anywhere around 220,000 in the US. Amish have refused to use garbage and sewage tanks and they stay with little or no contact with the world. This particular farmer was charged with contempt of court for refusing to agree with the court orders to stop disposing human waste on neighbors’ property. This is an example of what fundamentalists can do.
