Who wouldn’t wish to have an all terrain family car, that is economical and can take you to places where your conventional car wouldn’t even dare to go? Especially, if you tread through a lake, soaking up the calm and peace of the countryside, all while driving smack in the middle of a lake or a river.
With this thought in mind, one of the greatest concept car designers, Peter Wheeler, ex-owner of TVR came out with an unusual yet a really awesome design, known simply as the Scamander RRV. This prototype vehicle boasts of achieving any terrain you can throw at it and looks a lot like something straight out of a science-fiction movie. Be it a highway, off-road or even a lake, the Scamander RRV can go just about anywhere, all the while carrying four passengers comfortably seated in it. Peter Wheeler passed away in November 2008, and left behind a legacy that has taken everyone by utter awe. In the world of high-end sports cars such as Ferrari, McLaren etc., Scamander RRV proves to be a refreshing change and at the same time can be an extremely useful tool for off road explorations.

In an interview to the EVO magazine in November 2008, Mr. Wheeler revealed the idea behind this, one of a kind concept vehicle;
“I created it for me, to be honest. I enjoy shooting, sailing and driving on track, so I wanted something that could cover all these elements. I call it an RRV, for rapid response vehicle. Just don’t call it a car.”
Most people would think that, a vehicle of such capabilities would naturally be a 4X4 drive. However, Wheeler chose not to incorporate the conventional 4-wheel drive in this RRV. Instead, he chose to use 35-inch diameter tires with the same properties as of a tractor and other heavy vehicles of the same segment. A major design innovation was the addition of ‘removable paddles’ to the rear wheels, thereby making it an amphibious vehicle as well.
The prototype version of Scamander RRV uses a 2.0-liter Ford Zetec engine. However, as per its creator’s wishes, the production models will incorporate 4.6-liter Rover V8, as it was the same engine that propelled TVR to glorious heights.
As Scamander RRV is also an amphibious vehicle, therefore, thorough attention to the visibility factor for the driver of the RRV. The front of the RRV is fitted with a wide and large canopy that offers superb visibility, especially when the vehicle is driving over the water.
