There is something about MIT students that makes them totally hot. Take for example these students who are developing an electric car which can be charged in just under 10 minutes! It comes with a 2010 Mercury Milan hybrid and an astounding 7905 lithium ion batteries.
The car can accelerate form 0 to 60 in just under 9 seconds and the 10 minute charge will allow you to drive for about 200 miles. The car needs about 350 kilo watt of power which can be quite a lot. It would be interesting to see how this unique car would develop in the future.
If you use a standard outlet, it can be charged overnight. So I guess the idea is to have charging stations where you can go and get your car charged in 10 minutes flat. It is an amazingly interesting idea and we must wait and watch if it will be worked out in the near future. And if it is, we must also keep watching to see if enters the retail market.
