Just days after a devastating strike on the heart of the Pakistani military, there are now serious doubts being raised by many about the safety of the nuclear weapons facilities inside Pakistan. The attack on the Pakistan Army HQ, has shown the lapse of security measures inside the now terror driven country and opened the safety of the Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal to an all new level of scrutiny.

Even with the growing concerns over the safety of the nuclear weapons in Pakistan, many experts, including those of the U.S. counter-proliferation division believe that, inspite of such high level attacks in Pakistan, its nuclear arsenal is still secure and far away from the hands of the terrorists, as Pakistan deploys elite members from its armed forces to ensure the safety of these weapons.

Pakistan as of now has an estimated 70 to 90 nuclear warheads and as per one of the security initiatives, Pakistani authorities keep the warheads, detonators and the missiles in separate places, to maintain a certain level of assurance that, the weapons could not be used by the terror forces.

However, some security experts believe that the situation in the Pakistani military and in the case of the safety of nuclear weapons is far more complicated and is being heavily downplayed by the United States and the International community. Some believe that there are many terror outfit sympathizers inside the Pakistani military and that would make it easier for the terror outfits to infiltrate the nuclear storage facilities and take over the command and control of the nuclear weapons.
