AOL Finally Begins Its Solo Journey

One of the oldest internet entities in the United States, AOL has finally broken off of Time Warner Inc. and is all geared to make a name for itself entirely on its own. The new horizons that AOL is venturing in marks an all new threshold for the company after a long standing catastrophic partnership with the media giant Time Warner Inc.

AOL saw its days of glory back in the 1990s when the company made a fortune by providing the U.S users with dial up connections and then bought Time Warner fro $147 million. However, in the recent years the company witnessed intense setbacks and a massive slump in revenue, leaving the now $2 billion firm to try to make money from running advertisements on self owned websites such as AOL.com Mapquest and tech blog Engadget. The entertainment wing, TMZ remains under Time Warner’s umbrella, as AOL showed no interest in the division.

After the acquisition of Time Warner by AOL in the year 2001, the prospects for both the companies looked golden as it was widely believed that, that media services from Time Warner and the online service provided by AOL (America Online) would compliment each other and would create an everlasting highly lucrative partnership. However, with the introduction of high speed broadband connections, the dial up access virtually disappeared along with AOL’s dreams.
