AppJet Becomes A Part Of Google

Google is on a roll when it comes to acquiring companies and technologies that would further exemplify the search giants, current and future endeavors. Now, Google has added yet another company to its collection and thus this time, it is AppJet Inc., which is the developer of EtherPad, an online word processor.

The brains behind EtherPad is composed of three ex-Google employees, who will once again will be working with Google on its Google Wave project. Even though, EtherPad has now under Google’s leash, yet the users who are already using this online word software, will have access to the service til March 31st, 2010, that will be inclusive of some restrictions, such as the ability to create new projects will be disabed.

The users have been advised to save all their work offline, as the online documents on EtherPad will not be accessible after March 31st, 2010. The documents created in the free pads will most definitely be lost after the deadline, but the Professional Edition users can easily save their work, a EtherPad is offering a consolidated ZIP file, that can be downloaded to the computer. Furthermore, the website has announced that, the Professional Edition users will not be charged for using EtherPad services.

According to EtherPad,

“EtherPad will not charge it users, including Professional Edition users, from December 4, 2009 through March 31, 2010. We will discontinue the service on March 31, 2010. No refunds of previously-paid amounts will be granted.”
