Apple today announced the release of an all new video format, known as iFrame. This new format has been launched along with the iMovie 8.0.5 update and features the latest video encoding technology, such as H.264 video AAC audio codecs. The main reason for the introduction of iFrame it seems is that, with iFrame the videos are quite smaller in size compared to other video format and the videos do not lose these quality. Thus, providing users with small size high-quality videos.
The launch of iFrame video format coincides with the launch of two new camcorders, Sanyo VPC-HD2000A and Sanyo VPC-FH1A, that are only devices that currently support the newly introduced format. The iFrame video format is available for download, with the iMovie 09 software update. Apple has also released a support paper for iFrame format.
According to Apple,
“The iFrame Video format is designed by Apple to speed up importing and editing by keeping the content in its native recorded format while editing. Based on industry standard technologies such as H.264 and AAC audio, iFrame produces small file sizes and simplifies the process of working with Video recorded with your camera.”
Along with the iFrame video format, Apple has also provided crucial updates to its iMovie 09, that enables the software to easily import videos taken on iPod Nano. Apple has also fixed a bug in the software, that now enables the users to resize the movie player windows between playback.
