Apple Could Take Over The Mobile App Sector.
Apple Inc, has fast grabbed hold of the cell phone market, since the introduction of the famed iPhone and the Apple Apps Store has now gathered immense popularity and has become one of the most visited and cherished one stop mobile application for Apple iPhone. The popularity of the iPhone Apps store has reached such enormous amounts, that it could one day even outmaneuver the popularity of Apple itself.
The Apps store has more than 100,000 applications from third party developers covering a variety of genres such as video and photography, maps and turn-by-turn navigation, media and books, music and games, mobile shopping. The apps store not only caters to the iPhone but also to the insanely famous mobile music device Apple iPod Touch.
According to Katy Huberty (Analyst, Morgan Stanley), “Apple changed the view of what you can do with that small phone in your back pocket. Applications make the smartphone trend a revolutionary trend — one we haven’t seen in consumer technology for many years.”
The Apple apps store has claimed the interest and attention of hundreds and thousands of application developers who would nothing more than to see their applications featured in the store. In a recent revelation, Apple had announced that, more than two billion applications had been downloaded by users worldwide, since the inception of the service.
Witnessing the frenzy brought on by the App store, other big names in the mobile and internet industries such as Google, Microsoft, Palm etc. have also begun their own app stores, but whether or not they’ll be able to give a competition to the Apple Apps Store is anybody’s guess.
