
In the mobile market of South Korea, where native mobile manufacturing firms such as Samsung and LG reign supreme, Apple Inc.’s most popular iPhone has finally made its presence and is all set to the South Korean markets by storm.
The launch of the Apple iPhone was spectacular as expected and was comprised of incredible fanfare and excitement as hundreds of to be iPhone customers waited in line to get their hands on the pre-ordered handsets in Seoul, capital of South Korea. The first person who acquired the iPhone was 25-year-old university student. Most of the crowd waited outside the stores from the night before to ensure that, they do get their handsets in the early hours of the launch.
There had been near 65,000 orders that had been placed till November 22nd, 2009 for the Apple iPhone and the consumer gathered outside the stores were primarily those who were among these 65,000 pre-ordered customers. A rock band was stationed outside the store that played till the time the store was opened and to add fizz to the event, a countdown clock was installed that displayed the time remaining for the launch of Apple iPhone.
The pre-orders were booked by South Korean telecommunication entity, KT Corporation, who has stated that, at the time of the event, some 850 customers got their iPhones and the others who had made their pre-bookings of the device were receiving the iPhones via delivery. According to Yang Hyun-mi (Chief Strategy Officer, KT Corp),
“We’re hoping that this iPhone will be a trigger point for the smartphone market in Korea. We just think it will be really huge.”
