California may have given its citizens the right to same sex marriages over four months ago, but the war isn’t really over. Proposition 8 is a counteractive proposal to eliminate this right in an attempt to keep the holy sanctimony of marriage strictly between a man and a woman.

With Proposition 8 rousing emotions to breaking point, this political fight has been taken to another level by the rise of a surprising defender for gay rights. Apple has released an official statement showing their disdain to Proposition 8 and backing homosexuals in their fight for freedom of sexual expression. According to the statement released by Apple, the right to marriage is a fundamental right of every person notwithstanding their sexual orientation. Same-sex partners of Apple employees already enjoy equal benefits under company law. Striking the point home that any bias based on a person’s sexuality is a step towards inequality is Apple’s $100,000 donation to the No on 8 campaign.

Viewing Proposition 8 as a civil right rather than a political issue, gay rights activists would be grateful for the support of Apple right after Google joined the battle. Cheers to the forbidden fruit for daring to wave the rainbow coloured flag with such pride!
