AT&T Advanced Ad Solutions Launches ShopAlerts, A Highly Innovative Location-Based Marketing Service


One of the biggest wireless carriers in the U.S, AT&T with its directory and publishing operations division, AT&T Advertising Solutions has now announced the launch of a new remarkable location based marketing service called, ShopAlerts, where in AT&T will now be sending special offers and discounts from of the leading brands and stores to the consumers’ cell phones, the moment they are at or in the vicinity of a participating store or brand. This incredible new service has been initiated in collaboration with Placecast, that is considered to be the first of its kind location based service, that has been designed for mobile marketing, to reach to the masses.

ShopAlerts, will be sending promotional and marketing messages to customers of AT&T in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco, while only serving those users, who have subscribed to the ShopAlerts service, thereby avoiding unnecessary marketing. With the launch of ShopAlerts, AT&T has now become the very first wireless carrier in the U.S, to run a location-based mobile marketing program for consumers and advertisers in such magnitude. The users will be sent valuable offers, rewards, and coupons whenever they are near or at any of the ShpoAlerts participating stores such as HP, Kmart, JetBlue, SC Johnson, Kibbles ‘n Bits, Nature’s Recipe and the National Milk Mustache “got milk?” campaign. Along with the marketing content, consumers will also be served valuable location data including weather, traffic, and local shopping area details.

To turn this highly ambitious project in to a roaring success, AT&T has employed what it calls a, ‘geo-fence’, that is essentially a virtual perimeter covering the retail location or any region, so as to provide the users with the most specific and appropriate location based messages.
