The continuing courtroom battle royal between two of America’s biggest wireless carriers, AT&T and Verizon Wireless witnessed yet another twist, as Verizon filed yet another response to the court, as part of its ongoing defense. AT&T has sued Verizon wireless for wrongful advertising and defaming of AT&T services.

The response from Verizon has been triggered by the request made by AT&T, in which the company has asked Verizon to take back all advertisements that make a comparison of the 3G services provided by both networks. In its response, Verizon has said,

“AT&T did not file this lawsuit because Verizon’s “There’s A Map For That” advertisements are untrue; AT&T sued because Verizon’s ads are true and the truth hurts. In the final analysis, AT&T seeks emergency relief because Verizon’s side-by-side, apples-to-apples comparison of its own 3G coverage with AT&T’s confirms what the marketplace has been saying for months: AT&T failed to invest adequately in the necessary infrastructure to expand its 3G coverage to support its growth in smartphone business and the usefulness of its service to smartphone users has suffered accordingly. AT&T may not like the message that the ads send, but this Court should reject its efforts to silence the messenger.”

AT&T has repeatedly complained that Verizon’s commercials are misleading to the consumers, as the advertisements depict that, certain areas in the United States do not enjoy AT&T’s 3G network coverage. After the initial assault from Verizon, AT&T went all the way out to reach to the public and stated that, the Verizon commercials are false and extremely misleading and that the company would like to make the users privy to their entire EDGE and 3G data coverage statistics.

The one on one attacks on the credibility of both wireless operators, doesn’t seem to calm down any time soon and irrespective of whosoever becomes the winner in the court battle, the reputation of both the companies is bound to get tarnished in this legal tussle.
