The euphoria, that of the insanely famous smart phone and one of the most sought after gadget in the world, the Apple iPhone has evidently come across a speed bump, as one of the largest and the exclusive carrier of the device, AT&T has announced the temporary discontinuation of its online order placements.
Both AT&T and Apple Inc. did not provide any clarification for the sudden halt in the online sales of the iPhone, but AT&T spokesman, Fletcher Cook stated that, it was a usual step taken by the company to reorganize its distribution channels. However, many still believe that, these latest developments could very well be a part of AT&T’s effort to minimize the data usage from consumers, as New York and San Francisco amount to the highest number of iPhones accessing AT&T’s 3G services that have lately been overwhelmed with the sudden increase in traffic.
Yet, the surge in the sales of the iPhone is not expected to die down as iPhones are readily available via Apple’s web site and other retail stores and it is also speculated that, this move by AT&T could have also been an attempt towards bringing down the number of phones being purchased from the wireless carrier, jailbroken and then sent overseas to be used on other wireless networks.
