Antiquorum’s auction room in New York City attracted watch collectors from around the globe on June 10th for the sale of Important Collectors’ Wristwatches, Pocket Watches &clocks. The auction achieved $4.5 million boosting the total spring sale to over $9.5 million.
For the 364 lots on offer vigorous bidding was witnessed by the collectors present in the auction room along with 420 registered on the internet and many more phone and commission bidders. The bids were coming in thick and fast from all across the globe including China, Europe and the USA. Evan Zimmermann,President and CEO of Antiquorum was more than satisfied by the enthusiastic response of the collectors. He said that despite the volatility of the stock markets the June auctions have proven the global confidence in the enduring value of high end watches. They are working as a hedge against currency fluctuations.
The Patek Philippe from lot 363 was undoubtedly the highlight of the sale. It fetched an incredible $576,000. There was heated bidding for the platinum minute-repeater with skeletonised dial. The Patek Philippe from lot 362 and 361 went for exceptional prices of $282,000 and $103,200 respectively. Another modern complicated watch from lot 346 went for a creditable $54,000. It was obvious that modern Patek Philippe watches continue to attract worldwide attention by collectors.![]()
