The commuter bike of the future you always dreamt of is finally here. A carbon-fibre frame holds the bicycle making it both strong as well as light-weight. As of now, the bike isnt financially feasible but the makers hope that it will be in the near future. The rep at London Cycling Campaign was seen appreciating the motivation behind the new concept bike but he too felt that it needs to be made affordable in order to work well.

Designed to bring about a significant change in the college dorm room scene, this furniture unit is the solution you were looking for some comfy seating in a cramped up space. We like it because of its simplicity and innovation, yep, with a simple flip of a switch a twin extra-long bed gets transformed into a relaxing couch. The group behind this endeavor calls itself the Slouch, LLC Team claims that their college dorm inspired their little innovation; they just “knew there had to be a better way to relax”. The Paris-based furniture studio of Samal has just introduced three cool new designs by creator and namesake Dzmitry Samal. Called the Sphery Chair Lounge, Alien Lamp and Human Table, these structures are as fancy as their names. In fact, the markets are quite upbeat about selling these products which go into production by September this year.

Let’s take the first concept idea, the Sphery Chair Lounge. Well, it is a multi-spherical chair structured like a lounge. It actually is the mix of the classic traditional button tufted chair with many contemporary and recyclable soft poly materials. The metal understructure promises a strong tenure in your home decor. Samal offers a large palette of colors with several options of customization.

On the other hand, Alien lap has been made from the not-so-alien poplar polywood. You have both options – natural and painted to choose from. The shape of this lighting device is simple and continuous with a character of its own. Lastly, the Human Table draws inspiration from the beauty and sensuality of humans. Realized in soft plastic upon a durable metal foundation, this one is great for both outdoor and indoor use.

There is a very cool bit of news that we need to share with you fellas. The Harrisons, which includes Bill, Amarins and their three daughters aged 3, 4 and 6 are on their way to Alaska on a quint bicycle. This one is a 14.5-ft. long two-wheeler that has driven these folks hailing from Renfro Valley in Kentucky to go on this wonderful adventure.

The only supplies that the Harrisons have with them are the stuff they can carry on the bicycle which also includes a tent. But recently they had a stopover at the Oneida Guest House to celebrate the couple’s wedding anniversary.

The family is now on its way to the Atlantic Coast via the Carolinas. And once they get there, they will move to Florida from Southwest by way of the Southeast and will eventually take the path along the Pacific Coast to Alaska. They are planning to reach their final destination by August 2010 where they will stay for another year only to return to Renfro Valley by 2012. Boy, now that’s the family adventure we all had bee waiting for!

Researchers at the University of Bristol have been busy designing a cool new helmet to help the visually impaired who find it difficult to perfect the system of clicks and whistles. The Navigation Helmet has been programmed to automatically transform a map of the surrounding area into sound. This means that all sort of real-life imagery of local obstacles like stairs, trees or even walls as well as cars and others people is maneuvered by the helmet.

So far they have designed the helmet only for the Spanish speaking populace; we do hope that they soon do in other languages too. The helmet makes use of stereo headphones to denote where the objects really are vis-à-vis the wearer and the volume of the sound hints at the distance. Impressively, the device’s 60-degree range of vision helps it to identify objects as far away as 15 feet.

But the Navigation Helmet is not equipped with technology to pick up oncoming traffic. That is just another reason why the researchers need to spend some more time on this innovation. We also think that the overall appearance could also need some work.
