Six Czech climbers died in an avalanche in the Austrian Alps. Rescuers could not reach the victims due to bad weather. They were attempting to scale one of the less famous peaks of Austria when the tragedy struck them. The Schalfkogel peak is located in a remote part of the country near the Italian border.

It stands about 11,500 feet tall and is notorious for bad weather and avalanches. Moreover, this year the avalanches have been particularly bad. The dead were identified by a seventh climber who decided not to accompany them at the last minute. The avalanche itself occurred about 500 meters below the summit.

It is common to see many climbers and mountaineers climbing the peaks during spring. It is also the most dangerous time for climbing. Proper notices and facilities could have prevented the tragedy where the climbers had to lose their lives unnecessarily. If only rescuers had better equipment, they could have been saved.
