Imagine this scenario. You are watching an interesting opera, and suddenly in the middle of it, somebody’s cell phone rings loudly. You and the rest of the people sitting in there are definitely going to be perturbed. Cell phones can really play the spoilt sport’s role annoyingly well that is if the users do not have the gumption to turn them off when they should. To tackle this problem, Richard Etter designed the cell phone detecting AwareFashion shirt to assist the staff in an opera house.
The shirt is equipped with a pocket, which is hidden inside. It has an antenna, a tiny circuit board, button cells and fiber optics through which, it senses every switched-on mobile phone in the proximity. When a cell phone is nearby, the shirt gives the signal to the wearer by unobtrusively glowing at the end of its sleeves. Besides, the shirt looks fashionable enough and the wearer can also choose the color of the light such as; green, red, yellow, white or blue when the shirt glows.
Interestingly, the pocket can be easily attached or detached from the shirt. To wash the shirt, the wearer must first detach the pocket, and after which the pocket can be easily attached with the help of push buttons. This shirt should be used in places like the churches, cinema theatres and other places wherein silence should be maintained decently. However, as of now, the shirt is just a concept. I can’t wait for it to be out in the market soon.
