
Its homepage boasts of a CNN praise saying it is “The sexiest website in the world today.” Right off, it asks interested applicants such questions as: “Do looks matter to you, when it comes to selecting a partner?” and “Do you want to guarantee your dates will always be beautiful?” New members are allowed to join “only if existing members vote them as sufficiently attractive to warrant it.”
With such strict criteria, it prides itself in its exclusivity, specifically boasting to be ‘an exclusively beautiful community, founded for the purpose of creating personal and professional relationships.’ It is an ‘elite online club, where every member works the door.” It claims that it “does not define beauty it simply gives an accurate representation of what society’s ideal of beauty is.”
According to a report from the BBC, the dating and social network site has recently expelled some 5,000 members after fellow members complained that these people gained weight over the holidays, evidenced by their posted pictures.
“As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld. Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded,” said Robert Hintze, founder of the “the largest network of attractive people in the world.”
