Berlin’s Television Tower Will Soon Transmit From Space!

Berliner Fernsehturm tower – the Berlin television tower – was erected in 1969 by the communist government German Democratic Republic as a symbol of secular Berlin. Being visible almost throughout Berlin, the tower certainly symbolizes the city but the secularity of it remains in question. The steel dome of the tower gives off the image of the cross every time light falls on it, angering atheist Berliners.

Fabian Tischer might hate the tower for the same reason, or perhaps he loathes the fact that the 368 meter tower remains a reminder of the communist government. Whatever be the reason, he came up with the idea of blasting the television tower to space. Tischer made a video counting down the sends to the moment when the tower appears to take off vertically, leaving behind a cloud of smoke and empty space where it had earlier stood.

Tischer gives a very realistic commentary of the engines switching (and the usual stuff that you would hear during a rocket launch) while showing the tower from different directions as it prepares for take-off. There’s no news yet on how the government is reacting to this but all I’m wondering is if the tower is still transmitting data!
