Bharati Airtel is looking to tap the northeastern region of India. The rural sector and catering to the needs of these people have rather proved to be profitable in Indian business. Airtel is out to follow the same strategy as well. The company will open 2500 Airtel Service Centres in this northeast belt.
Airtel has captured a major chunk of the rural population in India; after all it has set up 14,000 service centres already. It has an ambitious plan target of 1 lakh centres throughout the country by next March. In the northeast region of India, Airtel foresees a tremendous business opportunity and has invested Rs 1000 crore in this region. The subscriber base is at a whooping 2.7 million in this belt alone and still plans to add on more subscribers to the list. An estimated amount of Rs 75 crore pours in as revenue per month from northeast India alone. Among the 23 telecom circles of Bharati Airtel, Northeast and Assam circle fits in as the top 10-15 most profitable circles in the company. There is surely a lot of untapped moolah yet to be explored in this region!
