Metro de Bilbao has announced that the subway system of the Spanish city would run on renewable energy. That would make Bilbao the first city in the world to have a subway system that completely runs on renewable energy. The energy is being supplied by a company called Naturgas.

It has saved about 46,000 metric tons of CO2 and saved about 33% of energy. If all cities worldwide follow this method, there would be a lot less pressure on the fragile eco systems of our environment. Bilbao’s metro system may hold the answer for rising pollution and also depleting energy resources.

Subway systems would also help in reducing pollution caused by cars and also save all the energy used by four wheelers. Mass transit systems like these which run on renewable energies is the answer for future environmental woes.
