bill gates Bill Gates: Bridging the Gap Between Aid and Crisis

Bill Gates wants to appear at the World Economic Forum. On such occasions, he gets the opportunity to present his unique thoughts such as ‘creative capitalism.’ What Bill Gates wants is to make a positive dent in world affairs. He thinks he can make a difference. In reality, he has been making a difference. Far and away from his old world at Microsoft, Gates has, indeed, been far and away in such places as Africa to change the world.

Appearing in Davos at the most recent World Economic Forum, he specifically presented his Foundation. He admitted that his Foundation has lost a fifth of its value. There is also a small fact about a $34 million donation to eliminate tropical disease. While at it, he gave his share of prognosis: that the current economic crisis will last four years and that science and technology are crucial for recovery. His sublime reason for attending the forum is to urge countries to maintain foreign aid for developing countries, in spite of the financial crisis and because of the crisis.

Gates’ logic rings clear. The job of the world now is to help poor people especially in this time of crisis. He is the unspoken ambassador for humanitarian aid which is threatened during this time when rich countries have to do their own belt-tightening. Specifically, Bill and Melinda Gates’ Foundation’s main priority at present is to eliminate polio. Gates believes that we are very close to eradicating it. The aim is to minimize the impact of tropical diseases by 2020. According to Melinda, a generous single donor can help control the disease in an entire country because it only takes 50 cents per person per year to be able to treat seven of the most common tropical diseases.
