The holiday shopping season that kicked off with the Black Friday shopping spree was not only limited to retail super chains such as Wal-mart and Target, but also a massive online campaign by numerous online retailers such as Amazon, eBay etc. Now that the Black Friday is over, it has been discovered that, Amazon.com witnessed the biggest surge in online sales and it tops the online sales list for Black Friday sales.

According to the analysis produced by comScore, the Black Friday for this year witnessed total online sales of upto $595 million and has been deemed as the second event of the year, where such huge spending trends have been recorded. According to Gian Fulgoni (President, comScore),

“Black Friday, better known as a shopping bonanza in brick-and-mortar retail stores, is increasingly becoming one of the landmark days in the online holiday shopping world. While this acceleration in spending suggests the online holiday season may be shaping up slightly more optimistically than anticipated, it may also reflect the heavy discounting and creative promotions being put forth by retailers that now encompass the use of social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. Cyber Monday — the traditional kick-off to the online holiday shopping season — and the subsequent weeks will be the real test for how online retailers fare this season. That said, this is a very encouraging start.”

Amazon recorded the best online sales for the season and has said to have acquired a huge chunk of online sales compared to the top 500 Retail Web sites with a total of 13.5% of the total sales, making it two consecutive years of top Black Friday sales for Amazon. Furthermore, Wal-mart and Amazon recorded the most number of visits than any other retail website.
