The British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said last evening that the “Britain is in danger from self-starting terror networks or lone individuals motivated by an al-Qaeda- style ideology”.
The home born terrorists mostly inspired by these terror groups may become a major threat to the nation. All public places including shopping centres, night clubs, cinemas etc could be targeted by these terrorists. The plan is to train the approximately 60,000 workers and the store managers etc, to tackle terror. With nuclear and radiological material and even chemicals readily available in the market, these dangerous elements can easily fall into wrong hands. The Iraq and the Afghanistan wars have only developed their skills to make more sophisticated bombs.
Now the British citizens have to worry about their safety in their own country from their own citizens or as termed homegrown terrorists. Shopping centres, sport stadiums and even night clubs where people go to enjoy will be less enjoyable with this fear at the back of their minds. The warning of the possible terror threat has put the top officials in high alert, especially after the suicide bombing that killed 52 in the London’s transport network.
