HIV has been the blight of mankind and it seems like many millions will still continue to lose their lives to this horror of modern life. While condoms do offer protection, they can break and many don’t use. Women now have the option of applying gel inside vagina which would block the HIV virus from entering into the blood stream. British scientists are developing this new gel which would stop HIV in its tracks and can mostly protect only women.
About 90 million pounds have been sanctioned for this research and this could be the only way that women could protect themselves against HIV. The research is being conducted by a number of British scientists and researchers and they are hopeful of a commercial launch after the reserch and development is over.
If this works, it could help solve many of the HIV related issues which are otherwise not easy to tackle. Earlier, HIV was rampant among male homosexuals but a recent trend shows that it is now more common among heterosexual contact. Whatever the case might be, it is necessary to break the myths and assumptions related to HIV and encourage research for further treatments and possibly a vaccination too!
