A drop in the growth of users, and editing articles on Wikipedia have been observed by researchers, who noted that this phenomenon, which is becoming constant, may lead to a deterioration in the quality of the site until its closure.
The reason for the decline would be publishers who do not want to accept contributions from occasional users.
Ed Chi and other researchers of the Center for Research in Palo Alto, California, found that the number of new articles added each month on the site fell 60 thousand in 2006 to 2009, meaning a decline of one third of records.
The problem, according to the Web site “The Inquirer” is the difficulty in making contributions in the encyclopedia.
The “bureaucracy” in the service should be introduced to small groups of active editors, which intensified the fixes, changes and substitute older texts in the pages to keep their own version of the facts, reported the website Softpedia.
According to the “New Scientist” website that change in general behavior of the users can pose a threat to Wikipedia. Ed Chi thinks that with less editors, less information can be added and corrected.
