Burger King Ad Angers Mexicans

mex1 Burger King Ad Angers Mexicans

Burger King’s latest promotional poster has pissed off Mexicans and the ad has been forcefully withdrawn. It shows the Texican Whopper being promoted in a bad light. The food product shows an American cowboy standing next to a short Mexican man draped in the country’s flag. The Mexican ambassador to Spain said that the such an act is illegal and Mexican flag cannot be shown in such a way.

Moreover, the very idea of a shorter Mexican standing next to a cowboy is something that has offended many Mexicans. This poor ad shows the kind of imperialistic mentality that Americans and American companies have. It is sad that the so-called most powerful country muscles into every situation and ends up being an annoyance.

It is left to American companies if they want to remain successful and in business, or take up an imperialistic stand and be hated by other peoples. This ad was withdrawn and the Burger King offered an apology to the Mexican people. However, they maintained that they have not done anything wrong at all. This is again a very American attitude.
