CalStar to Soon Produce Bricks with a Novel Method

CalStar, a California based company, which has been a well-known pioneer for decades in the building supply industry is going the unconventional way of making bricks by adapting a novel method. Kane, the CEO of the company states in an interview that their method doesn’t involve a huge waste of energy, which is a common procedure that traditionally the three thousand year old technology follows.

It takes about a day’s time to fire each brick at around 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. A lot of energy is wasted in the process. Whereas CalStar’s business materials are produced with a chemical process that takes place at temperatures below that of boiling water (approximately about 212 at sea level). Kane takes tremendous pride in mentioning that his bricks will be the first of its kind to have the standard-strength combination that also meets all requirements.

The bricks are special as each of them has a carbon footprint of 0.2 pounds while a standard kiln-fired brick produces 1.3 pounds. CalStar has numerous distributors lined up. By January next year, they expect to begin moving bricks out of their production plant in Caledonia. The initial financing came from Foundation Capital and other VCs.
