michou burnt child Campaign by Michou y Mau Foundation for the Burnt Child

Mexico’s Michou y Mou Foundation works for the aid of severely burnt children.  It seems there were more than 72,000 cases of seriously burnt children in Mexico last year alone. This shocking reality is depicted graphically in the latest awareness campaign of the foundation.

The images were created graphically and each dot the face is made of is either used or unused matchstick. The agony on the face of the child and message on the matchbox about 72,000 burnt children and an appeal not to leave matches near children is hard hitting. The campaign is done by Young and Rubicam, Mexico. It is one of the simple minimalist awareness campaigns. The black and white graphic image of crying children made with match sticks is excellent.

It is a challenge for advertising agencies to create non-profit awareness campaigns for social organizations. It is very rare that one comes across such a subtle campaign. These awareness campaigns can save millions of children all over the world from severe burns. We all need a reminder that one stick can scar a child for life.
