All those cancer awareness programs seem to have finally paid off. There has been a reduction in the number of cancer related deaths and also reports of cancers among American people. Ever since the first statistics related to the prevalence of cancer was released in 1998, the cancer rate has been steadily decreasing and ever since 2003, it has sort of leveled off.
The single most reported type of cancer has been that of the lung’[s and that has drastically reduced. Among men, prostate, lung and colorectal cancer rates have reduced and among women, breast and colorectal cancers have reduced. If only people reduced the rate of smoking, cancer rates would be significantly lower and less prevailing.
Almost 40 million American adults smoke and that increases the chances of acquiring cancer by 30%. Red meat and alcohol are other significant causes of cancers. However, leukemia seems to be resistant towards any sort of decline and continues to be the most fatal form of cancer. The four most important steps in reducing cancer rates not smoking, being active, eating healthy and getting screened early in life.
