The 99 year old almost forgotten Hydroelectric Plant at the Linton Falls in Yorkshire Dales is preparing itself to return to its service. The plant which has been quiescent since the last 6 decades has the capability of generating 510,000 kWh of energy per year. That would probably be able to power many homes!

The Linton Falls generating station is to work with just two Archimedean screws which were initially created carry water upwards as they rotate. But now, the same screws will provide electric energy when they are spun at high speeds by the river water flowing through them. Inspired by this, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority wants to use 50 other sites to set up similar projects for generating power from renewable sources.
Like I said in one of my previous posts, we always tend to ignore what we have and go searching for something new. This power plant teaches us a lesson that we should always try and make an attempt to make the best use of resources we already have instead of banging our heads to create something new.
