dod flexible display initiative CES 2009: UDC Exhibits 4 AMOLED Prototype

At CES 2009, UDC is exhibiting a 4″ prototype of a flexible AMOLED. This is a full colour OLED device, which can be worn on the wrist. The OLED device has the support of the U.D. Department of Defense and conforms to the requirements of the army’s rugged nature.

The devices come with Universal Display’s phosphorescent OLED technology and a flexible and ultra thin display. The device comes with a 4″ display, which must be enough to view pictures with high clarity without squinting ones eyes. Though initially developed for military usage, it could be used for other civilian purposes as well.

The possibilities are endless. The device could be used for military field communications and also for consumer oriented products. Perhaps this is another sign of military technology entering the consumer market, and the number of military related companies exhibiting at the CES 2009, Las Vegas, Nevada, proves the trend. There is no mention of either the price or the availability, which isn’t a problem as we expect more information to be revealed at the CES 2009.
