CES 2010: Lenovo To Unveil The Skylight Smartbook

For the Consumer Electronics Show 2010 (CES), it seems, Lenovo is out with all guns glazing as the computer hardware giant has spared no effort in ensuring that the world comes face to face with every bit of technology that the company has to offer. Recently, we wrote about the new Ideapad and Thinkpad series notebooks to be unveiled at CES, and now, Lenovo has announced yet another awesome “smartbook” called Lenovo Skylight.

The Lenovo Skylight is being viewed as a cross breed between a smart phone and that of a notebook, as the new smartbook is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and sports a 10 inch display with a weight of just two pounds. Due to the fact that, Microsoft Windows 7 OS isn’t compatible with Snapdragon processors, Lenovo has used the Linux operating system for the Skylight, along with a 20GB flash storage and has also included a 8GB mini SD card. The smartbook comes with wifi, 2 USB ports and a 1.3 mega pixel camera and the battery life of the Skylight is very impressive, providing ten hours of work time on the machine on a single charge.

Lenovo has kept the importance of social networking in mind while developing the Skylight, as the device is embedded with widgets for Facebook, Gmail and Youtube. The Skylight will be available to the consumers from April 2010 and will cost $499 per smartbook. According to Peter Gaucher (Executive Director, Mobile Internet Product Management, Lenovo),

“The web has become the window to the world for more and more people, helping them connect with friends and family across town or thousands of miles away. Skylight combines the long battery life and connectivity of a smartphone with the full web browsing and multimedia experience of a netbook to create one of the first devices in this developing smartbook category. Consumers want choices. They can now choose from a full portfolio of Lenovo mobile consumer devices including netbooks, smartbooks and laptops.”
